Horse Racing Betting System ResultsMy name is Keith Eckstein and I’m the creator of Place Profits.

Now, you might know me better as the creator of FocusRatings.com and AdvanceRatings.com – two capable ratings agencies which produce daily UK and Irish ratings but, in totally different ways.

Now, one day I was working on Focus Ratings R5 (the then current version of the ratings) and wondered to myself… “I wonder what the results would be if the horse was top rated on Focus Ratings and also top rated on Advance Ratings?”.

After all, if two totally different ratings agencies (which work out ratings in totally different ways) choose the same horse as the best in the race then that horse is probably going to do pretty well.

Thus, Focus Ratings R6 was born – a horse is top rated on R6 if it is both top rated on Focus Ratings R5 and on Advance Ratings.

A system is born…

So, naturally, with the new ratings, the first thing that I did was to see if I could come up with a system to consistently generate profits from them.

I back generated the last two years of R6 data and then took a look at the data by race type.

I found that there were about 25 race types that were blindly profitable; you could blindly back the top rated horse in each of those race types and you would make a profit.

Now, please be aware that, as far as I’m concerned, a non-handicap NH Novice Hurdle is a different race type to a handicap NH Novice Hurdle.

Things were looking good; I had a system, based on great ratings, that gave me about 3 selections a day, a 30% strike rate and a 30% profit on stakes.

What more could I ask for?

So, I started printing out the R6 ratings PDFs every day, working out the selections and watching the results come in.

After a great start however, the results stopped being as profitable. Although the system was still profitable overall, it didn’t make the profits that I had anticipated.

I persevered though and spent the next 6 months proofing the system.

Until one day I had three selections and they all came in in second place.

I went to bed that night, a bit despondent thinking… “So near and yet so far…”

The next morning, however, I woke up with a cunning plan bubbling away in my head.

You know that saying…. “When life gives you lemons, go and make lemonade.”

Well, that’s exactly what I did.

When life gives you lemons…

Luckily, I never throw anything away; I had 6 months of R6 Ratings PDFs, with my system selections highlighted, sat in a box beside my desk.

Time to get to work…

I started going through them, day by day, putting the selections into a spreadsheet and noting the result, the BSP and the Place BSP.

That took me two days to do.

I then realised that I needed to test the selections going back over the last two years.

That took me over a week to do!

I found that my less profitable than hoped for win backing system actually made a pretty impressive place betting system.

A place betting system with a 80% strike rate and 60 points profits per year (after Betfair commission) to a 20 point bank!

Although, in 2018 and 2019 you could have got away with a 10 point bank – there would have been a few scary times but the lowest historic draw down on the bank was about 8 points.

Now, that’s pretty impressive; if you start out with a £1,000 bank you will end up with over £4,000 in your bank at the year of the year.

If you take out your profits at the end of every month, you will still have your original £1,000 bank but will have been able to take out over £3,000 to spend on the important things in life – in my case, living in France, that’s quite a lot of Red Wine and Smelly Cheese!

Thank you for taking the time to read this…

If you want to see the spreadsheet that I used to record the selections (and the results), please feel free to download… level-stakes-with-monthly-take-outs.xlsx

You will see that, had you started with a £2,000 bank (and, thus, bet to £100 stakes) and taken out profits every month (where the month end bank was at least £2,000) you would end up, after 2 years, with your bank intact (although a few pounds down) and you would have taken out, over those 2 years, almost £14,000 in profits along the way.

Not a bad return for a £2,000 investment!

If you want to read about how I came up with the system, you can read about it at… How I Built The System.

If you are interested in my philosophy on making small profits but, lots of them, I try to explain that at… The Hare and the Tortoise.

And, finally, if you want to see how I stake the selections, I explain that at… The Annuity System.

My kindest regards
